Presidential Power

Kevin Drum gets all logical and shit and smacks aside the internet-lefty-approved notions that a) Obama is ineffectual and b) that Bush was able to get everything he wanted.

I've been trying to point this out (in comment sections) for weeks now. Haven't convinced anyone, of course.

I can’t find the thread right now, but I loved how one of the outraged Balloon-juice commenters called you “one-note cleek” for keeping a clear head. The voice of reason is SO boring!

I had lunch with Broderella’s Ghost the other day, and BG nodded in approval of Mr. Obama’s keen understanding of Bipartisanship and Both Sides.

As he delicately picked through his chicken salad, Broderella’s Ghost also nodding approvingly of Mr. Drum’s analysis.

    This recent comment on B-J,

Why do Democrats continue to enable Republican lunacy? WHY?

(unless it was meant ironically, and I find no evidence of that) really sums it up for me.

Like it or not, a majority in the House of Representatives is real political power. As a thought experiment imagine if YOU PERSONALLY had a majority in the HoR. See? Pretty fucking awesome, no?

The only enabling going on here is from the electorate. That’s our system. Legitimacy is not conferred by virtue of our opinions no matter how morally sound they are.

It’s as if these people have never been disappointed by anything in this world. Maybe they haven’t. Must be nice, I guess, although the only way I can think of to be assured of never being disappointed is to never do anything.

And that is your inspirational post for the day.
