Five, describe!

  1. Louis Armstrong - Muggles. Not terrible, but lacks the magic of some of his others.
  2. Smaller Animals - Lonesone Jangler.
Compact Audio Player Error! The mp3 file URL that you entered in the "fileurl" parameter looks to be invalid. Please enter a valid URL of the audio file.

Needs a lead. Why did I leave it in that state?

  3. Vampire Weekend - Obvious Bicycle. A skeletal, subdued song like this seems like strange choice for an album opener. But it's a nice song anyway.
  4. The Police - Message In A Bottle. Now that's how you start an album!
  5. Love And Rockets - It Could Be Sunshine. Another good opener! Better, because it's not worn out like that Police tune.

Participation is encouraged!

Back in the saddle again!

Let's do five, briefly described, for the edification of all.

  1. Duran Duran - Planet Earth. New Romantic synthpop disco!
  2. Miles Davis - Billy Boy. In which the pianist mightily asserts the theme.
  3. Beatles - I'm Only Sleeping. I love this one. The backwards guitar (?) solo is cute.
  4. Belle & Sebastian - Boy With The Arab Strap. Maybe my favorite B&S song. Maybe. Fav on this album, for sure.
  5. Paul Simon - Thelma. I like the main riff. The bridge/chorus parts seem to sag a little.

Glorious and gloriousser.

Participation is optional!

Random five, briefly described.

  1. Bennie Goodman Quartet - Mean To Me. Sweet.
  2. Sunny Day Real Estate - Pillars. A nice side one, track one. Makes me want to hear the rest of the album.
  3. Caribou - Desiree. Slowly builds into glorious psychedelia, then recedes.
  4. Colorblind James Experience - I'll Never Get Tired. Live, on the radio. Happy, country, double time.
  5. Elvis - Heartbreak Hotel. What a great little tune.

Random five... and describe.

  1. Paul Simon - Loves Me Like Iraq. Paul's complaint that his mother only ever wanted to use him as a pawn in her geopolitical power struggles.
  2. Mazzy Star - Flying Low. New Mazzy Star! A swampy, hazy, rocking tune, showing a bit more bite than I've come to expect from Mazzy. Nice.
  3. The Hold Steady - Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window. I don't know this Dylan song, or this band. But I'm liking both, right now.
  4. Led Zeppelin - Bron-Y-Aur Stomp. In which John Bonham hits his hi-hat every half beat. He plays the fuck out of that hi-hat! Tish... Tish... Tish... It's all my left ear can hear.
  5. Junior Wells & Buddy Guy - Hey Lawdy Mama. This is a great one. Junior Wells always sounds like he's having the time of his life.

Play along, if you want.

Just one, a random one...

Cousin Joe Of New Orleans - Barefoot Boy

"Cousin Joe" (Pleasant Joseph) was a blues & jazz singer and pianist. He recorded a few records from the 70s through the 90s, and this is from his second, released in 74. It's a simple, no-nonsense piano blues tune, with a little guitar accompaniment. Nothing about it really blows me away; but it's solid. Pleasant, yes indeed.

I think the record is officially out of print. But, my dad sent his LP to me to transfer from vinyl to CD. So, I skimmed a copy ... for reference of course.

Anyone got a random song they'd like to talk about ?

Five, describe.

  1. Sea And Cake - Lost In Autumn. It might be hard to find a song better suited for this dreary, sleepy, early Monday AM.
  2. Black Sabbath - A Bit Of Finger / Sleeping Village / Warning. Even this early, slow, bluesy Sabbath mini-suite fits the feeling.
  3. Led Zeppelin - Tangerine. One of my least-favorite LZ tunes - I get that "Tangerine" is supposed to be the name of the chick he's singing about, but I can't help thinking of the fruit. And I don't really like tangerines - nice flavor but far too many seeds. Still, the music does fit the mood.
  4. Atoms For Peace - Reverse Running. I don't know why I keep expecting AFP songs to be a lot more catchy than they are. I guess it's the Flea thing - a lot of Chili Pepper songs are super-catchy. But these songs kindof slide by without ever engaging me. I have incorrect expectations.
  5. Three Mile Pilot - Glitter Wave. I like this one. So does my iPod - it comes up once a week or so, on shuffle.

Anyone?
