Start Your iPods

Five, describe.

  1. Sea And Cake - Lost In Autumn. It might be hard to find a song better suited for this dreary, sleepy, early Monday AM.
  2. Black Sabbath - A Bit Of Finger / Sleeping Village / Warning. Even this early, slow, bluesy Sabbath mini-suite fits the feeling.
  3. Led Zeppelin - Tangerine. One of my least-favorite LZ tunes - I get that "Tangerine" is supposed to be the name of the chick he's singing about, but I can't help thinking of the fruit. And I don't really like tangerines - nice flavor but far too many seeds. Still, the music does fit the mood.
  4. Atoms For Peace - Reverse Running. I don't know why I keep expecting AFP songs to be a lot more catchy than they are. I guess it's the Flea thing - a lot of Chili Pepper songs are super-catchy. But these songs kindof slide by without ever engaging me. I have incorrect expectations.
  5. Three Mile Pilot - Glitter Wave. I like this one. So does my iPod - it comes up once a week or so, on shuffle.

Anyone?

Glitter Wave! Hooray! I keep meaning to pick up 3MP’s latest album. Pitchfork gave it a pretty decent review. But, as I recall, they had nothing nice to say about them, (or Pinback, or Black Heart Procession, related bands) until they became fashionable among the cognoscenti and changed their reviews accordingly. Pitchfork! Not just hipsters. Gutless hipsters!

I have a friend who works on various projects, dips in and out of various bands. When I asked him if one of his band of 15 years vintage was broken up for good after a long quiescent period he said, “Oh no. That’s my life band. We’ll never really break up.’

I like the idea of a life band.
