Start Your iPods

Random five, briefly described.

  1. Bennie Goodman Quartet - Mean To Me. Sweet.
  2. Sunny Day Real Estate - Pillars. A nice side one, track one. Makes me want to hear the rest of the album.
  3. Caribou - Desiree. Slowly builds into glorious psychedelia, then recedes.
  4. Colorblind James Experience - I'll Never Get Tired. Live, on the radio. Happy, country, double time.
  5. Elvis - Heartbreak Hotel. What a great little tune.

Join in, if ya wants ta.

Spent last week in Turkey on the beach drinking beer and eating until I exploded. All inclusive resort for the win!

    1. The Fall – Glam Racket
It’s The Fall. Surreal lyrics and pretty great music.
    2. Propagandhi – Impending Halfhead
Old school punk. Reminds me of high school.
    3. Ben Folds – Dr. Yang
This sort of playful romp is everything I like about Ben Folds.
    4. Dinosaur Jr. – It’s Me
This sort of heavy, distorted butt-kicker is everything I like about Dinosaur Jr.
    5. Sublime – Smoke Two Joints
When I lived in LA this song and Sublime were staples on the radio. With good reason.

    Work sucks.

Disclaimer: YouTube was returning 500 errors as I composed this, so links may be bad.

    Frank Zappa – Apostrophe
A surprisingly unironic rock instrumental. I guess that’s Cream’s Jack Bruce on the bass? The bass is what makes this track for me, I barely notice the guitar diddling.

Belle & Sebastian – Lord Anthony
You know I love B&S, but this is the kind of track that earns them the adjective “twee.”

    Barenaked Ladies – Box Set
Gordon has some really good tracks, but BNL spends a lot of the album flirting with being a novelty act.

Sixpence None The Richer – Kiss Me
I’m rather fond of this blend of jangly guitar and childlike vocal and 90s-pop drumming, whatever that says about me. This is probably my favorite song of the shuffle so far. Unless something by Chuck Berry should come on.

    Chuck Berry – Carol
