The AV Club has a post which asks the question What pop-culture event made you feel old?
Just last night, Mrs. Cleek and I were watching TV when a little blurb about the upcoming Sports Illustrated calendar came on. While the lithe young things were wriggling around in their barely-anything bathing suits, I had an epiphany: those girls were born when my wife and I were still in college. Or, even worse: when we were that age, which really doesn't feel like all that long ago, some of those girls hadn't been born. Yet there they were, swinging their sexy bits around.
You?
Sexy young ladies have been making me feel old since I was in high school…
Not sure if these are events, or pop culture, but:
Facebook – I can’t have been on that site more than 5 times, probably less
American Idol – or actually, the “stars” it produces, who is that again?
The new associates at my law firm – You say you’re class of 2009 from law school? You don’t even look 15. Give me some ID.
Browsing at the used book store among the old vinyl records and hearing a 12 year old ask his mother what those things were. And then remembering when CD’s first came out…in my teens.
Now that I have gone and read that Onion article it is the comments that make me feel old. Everyone starts off listing their birth year and I am older than basically everyone there. Late 80’s was the most popular. I was graduating high school. Gah!
Face it – we’re a bunch of old farts. :)
and oddly, i still get carded when buying booze. i’m 39.
ps: rob, mags arrived in yesterday’s mail.
It was weird going out drinking with a bunch of 30 and 40 somethings from the Portland office, all ensuring they had ID in case they got ‘carded’ (which is a new term for me!) Great beer town BTW – and the weather was fantastic.
Enjoy the mags. One of them has a review of the Pavement compilation you have blogged about.
