    Ok, this is excellent but I’m completely clueless about what’s going on technologically. Did he slow down Rick’s singing? How did he change the instrumentation behind it? What’s going on? Either way, very cool.

    i’m not sure how they isolated the vocals so well (it’s gotta be more than just EQ), but changing the tempo or pitch of a track without affecting the other is pretty common (ex. Audacity, which is free, can do it). i’m sure of the tech behind it, but if i had to guess, i’d say it’s something like the 1-D version of this. or maybe it’s some funky FFT stuff…

    i’m assuming the music behind Rick is just the intro and maybe some of the solo section to “Smells Like…”, cut and pasted to make whole verses.

    getting it all to sync up so well is what really impresses me. i’ve been trying to do something similar with two songs for a few days, and haven’t been able to get it to sound even close to as smooth as that. it’s tedious, trying to match beats and tempos convincingly.
