A Little Bag Of Sense'

Smell it:

Massachusetts has voted to decriminalize small amounts of marijuana, according to an election projection from the Associated Press.

With 28 percent of precincts across the state reporting, ballot Question 2 carries 65 percent of the vote. The ballot initiative will replace criminal penalties for possession of less than one ounce of marijuana with a set of civil penalties, including a $100 fine.

I am quite aware of the federal government’s position on this, and that as a result nothing really changes. But still, w00t.

In practical terms, there won’t be much of a difference in law enforcement in MA. Most of the time folks who are popped for possession of small amounts get a pass, especially the first time or two.

The more significant thing is that if you get hit for possession you will no longer have a criminal record that will follow you around. That can be quite helpful for folks who are trying to get housing or jobs.

It puts possession of small amounts of marijuana at about the level of getting caught walking around with an open beer.

So, w00t indeed for folks who like to light em up.
