So who won? Who cares.

That means Palin won. And I think that means he knows it.

Frankly, I think she did, too. She may have sounded like a little wind-up talking-points machine, but she did it with a smile.

After rewatching a bunch of her answers, I'm starting to wonder just what the fuck I was thinking when I wrote this. Her answers now seem shrill and hollow and her attitude is a strange mix of condescension and cynical manipulation - her downhome cornpone youbetchaism is fake (she doesn't show it in the 2006 Alaska Governor's debate); her answers are all canned; she pushes that bullshit idea that the only real Americans are those who live in small towns. She's a fraud.

Leaving aside the fact that I’ve always thought that claiming a “winner” in these debates is sort of silly, you’re absolutely right that Palin, having nothing to lose, won the expectations game. Failing to fail certainly can’t do her any harm.

On the other hand, Markos is right that any VP debate is unlikely to cause a huge poll mover either way. The big difference this year is it’s the first time in a couple decades that the VP candidate generates more excitement than her Presidential running mate.

You thought she was winking at you and … That was a joke. Put the hammer down, please.
