Sometimes, for no reason that I can tell, Windows file drag-n-drop stops working for me. I can grab a file, and drag its icon around, but the cursor will never acknowledge that it's over a possible target application. This is immensely frustrating.
But, I finally found the fix!
- Press Ctrl+Alt+Del.
- Press Esc.
It works, but... WTF ?
Well Windows is sensitive, it forgets stuff. Sometimes it needs a reset. Pressing ctrl-alt-del and escape is cheaper than powering off and back on.
Windows occasionally gets “confused” and needs a reset. Apparently it needs a bit of time in the powder room. Gots to brush it’s skirts down. And so on.
I could explain the real reason, but you’d fall asleep.

I can’t wait for the Windows 8 Explorer Ribbon! It’s going to rock!
they better have a “Windows Classic” theme.
I hate the Ribbon with a passion. And I don’t need Windows 7 let alone Windows 8. I mean really … who cares about the desktop OS any more? It’s increasingly irrelevant.

this reminds me of another WTF…
if you’re working in Visual Studio and you suddenly discover that Find In Files has stopped working, you might need to press:
Ctrl-C then Ctrl-Break
or
Alt-Break
or
Ctrl-Scroll Lock
intuitive!
