So, I went to see Niagara Falls today. Very cool. We did BOTH sides in the end. The US side had a nice park, an affordable restaurant and no tacky frontage, whilst the Canadian side afforded a better view, but was VERY touristy – bit crappy, Canada – sort it out eh?

The drive from Rochester was about an hour, which was cool, as I thought Buffalo was further. I kind of imagined Niagara to be in the middle of nowhere (albeit with some tourist stuff), so was surprised that the Canadian side was dominated with tall buildings and a hooooge casino.

Home tomorrow (Tuesday), which includes nearly 5 hours sat in Newark. Fab!

Did some shopping for the wife and daughter in a gigantic mall in Rochester (can’t ‘member the name) – Macy’s and Toys ‘R’ Us sucked plenty of dollars outta my Visa card, but that’s OK ‘cos your currency isn’t worth anywhere near as much as it was the last time I visited. he he. I nearly bought a Mac Book, but if customs at Heathrow find stuff like that, they make you pay 17.5% VAT which would make it the same price as the UK (but without our fancy plug).

Had a great time here in Canadaigua. Next conference *might* be Seattle next year. Yay!

BTW, which college did you attend in Rochester?

i was at RIT, which is on the south side of Rochester (in Henrietta, specifically). it’s near the “marketplace” mall. there’s a bigger mall up on the north side, in Irondequit, IIRC.

it’s been a long time since i was at the falls. but, yeah, i remember it being really touristy, too. especially the Canadian side. but we always went during the school year (driving to Canada to buy beer), so it was never crowded.

5 hours in Newark? paradise! that’s worth the trip from the UK all by itself!
