Start Your iPods

Random five, described.

  1. Sublime - Santeria. A jaunty, feel-good, perfect summer song about gunning down your ex's new beau. And that guy was a great singer - well maybe not technically, but the delivery, the swagger. He made it sound like so much fun.
  2. Sigur Rós - Ný Batterí. I like this one. Sounds like a drunken funeral dirge. I'll just assume the words fit the impression.
  3. Alison Krauss & Union Station - It Won't Work This Time. Alison isn't singing this one (though she's a-fiddlin), but I bet it would sound fine if she did. The banjo rules this one.
  4. Tortoise - A Survey. A three (?) bass meditation. Menacing.
  5. Van Halen - Dance The Night Away. Awwww. Such a cute little song.

What say you all?

Back from a month in the US with a new laptop and 8 suitcases (we left with 3). Man, your stuff is cheap over there.

    1. Unsane – Can’t See
Heavy as shit. I really like the bottom heavy bass and drums. It’s like a speeded up dirge with scream vocals.
    2. Yello – Oh Yeah
The sound of my teens. This was in so many movies but Ferris Bueller is the most known. After years of being sick of this song I can actually listen to it now.
    3. Rammstein – Mann Gegen Mann
More heaviness, but this time not as sinister. Love his voice though and the German makes it sound meaner somehow. And just noticing because I’ve never seen it before, that is quite the homoerotic video. Might be NSFW but I can’t totally tell.
    4. Pixies – Vamos
The sound of my late teens. This song pretty much says everything you need to know about the Pixies: Surf, noise, scream, speed.
    5. The Fall – Why Are People Grudgeful?
My mixes seem to contain a lot of the Fall lately. Not that there is anything wrong with that. This is the Fall sounding all early nineties Brit-dancy but with the familiar stream of consciousness mumbling.

Came back to typical Bergen, Norway “summer”: 58F and rain.
