This Should Be Illegal

Or at least a parody. But it is neither.

The Deerslayer (99 Proof, $65) is a surprisingly delicate-bodied whiskey flavored with the flora and fauna of New Hampshire in autumn— specifically, venison. The Deerslayer is crafted with three-year-old white wheat whiskey that allows the venison flavor to truly shine and distilled with slow-smoked red deer venison and seasonal ingredients including porcini mushrooms, cranberries, juniper berries, and green peppercorns. Ideal for venison-lovers and non-vegans alike, the savory and smoky notes characterize this one-of-a-kind spirit, with subtle spice on the palate up front and a lingering, gamey finish.

The article talks about two other whiskeys which might be even worse that this one.

Great, Great

These are my great-great- aunt and uncle, Caroline and Bob. They were traveling evangelical musicians, from the Baltimore area. He's holding a Gibson style "O" guitar, which my father sold in the late 80s for what it would have cost new in the 1910s: $150. Alas.

Haven't been able to find any recordings of them.

Super spreaders

A CNN investigation of 17 Trump campaign rallies finds that 14 of the host counties -- 82% of them -- had an increased rate of new Covid-19 cases one month after the rally.

The 17 rallies occurred between August 17 and September 26. CNN evaluated the rate of new daily cases per 100,000 residents at four weeks before the rally, on the rally date, and four weeks after the rally at the county level and at the state level.

Of the 14 host counties that had increased infection rates, eight of the counties had declining rates of infection in the month before the rally. The other six counties already had increasing rates of infection in that preceding month.

CNN's analysis also found that in 10 counties, the new rates of infection were growing faster than the overall rate for the state.

Scumbag

An officer involved in the fatal shooting of Breonna Taylor has filed a civil suit against the 26-year-old's boyfriend for emotional distress, assault and battery on the night she was killed. The lawsuit claims Louisville Sergeant Jonathan Mattingly experienced "severe trauma, mental anguish, and emotional distress" because of Kenneth Walker's actions on March 13.

Mattingly and two other officers entered Taylor's apartment early in the morning that day with a warrant in an attempt to carry out a drug investigation. Walker, a licensed gun owner who said he thought the officers were intruders, allegedly fired a shot that hit Mattingly in the leg. Police opened fire, killing Taylor. Taylor had no criminal record and no drugs were found.

"Walker's conduct in shooting Mattingly is outrageous, intolerable, and offends all accepted standards of decency and morality," the lawsuit said, citing one of the legal standards for intentional emotional distress.

I'm going to guess that there's a GoFundMe set up for this scumbag's "legal fees" and, once word gets around, the conservative outrage machine is going to make this scumbag a wealthy scumbag.

It's what they do, after all.

Gerald

Someone's having fun at ABC 7 in SF:

Perhaps feeling the stress of a global pandemic or America's long legacy of racism, Gerald the turkey has recently taken to viciously attacking visitors to the rose garden.
