I’ll just follow up on your WP comment from Balloon Juice here…. because there’s a good chance that site will be down when I go to post it. :)

So you agree with me that the problem is probably not WP’s scalability? That’s sort of a marketing problem for the WP people, isn’t it?

Maybe they should change the error template to say, “DATABASE ERROR” in big letters.

(I don’t have any interest in promoting WP, but my understanding is that it’s become a pretty robust package as of recent releases. But if I’m wrong, and it’s not up to handling Baloon Juice’s traffic, I’d like to learn this before I deploy it for some client of mine.)

i know there are blogs out there running WP which get much higher traffic than BJ does, and i never see the WP error message from them. ex. Malkin and Cosmic Variance (#2 and #4 on the TLB ecosystem, respectively) use WP. so does Sadly, No! (among many others)

maybe it’s a WP config issue, maybe it’s a server issue, a db config issue, a db server issue, etc.. whatever the problem is, it’s clear that WordPress should be able to handle BJ’s traffic. something else is going on…
