OT – hey, way back you mentioned either here or at ObWi you had a 1 or 2TB drive to store your small collection of music. In that vein, and since it seems you’re much a much more of a computer guy than I am, any advice/recommendations for a networked home cloud storage device (if you’re at all familiar)? I see some from Seagate and WD and can do the research to figure out what’s best, but was just curious of you had any thoughts.

    Thanks!

i use a “ReadyNAS NV+” from NetGear. it has 4x1TB drives in it right now. and, because it’s a RAID system (Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks), it can survive the total loss of one drive – just pop a new blank drive in and the thing will integrate the new drive by itself. so, it’s great for data protection. my NAS is pretty old though, so it doesn’t have any ‘cloud’ options – it’s local network only.

those new cloud drives look good. if i was getting one (and i’m tempted to), i’d get one of the ‘dual’ models that use two drives in a mirrored/RAID configuration. you lose some storage capacity, but gain data protection. personally, i’m biased towards WD. i’ve always had good luck with their drives. but i haven’t used any of their cloudy stuff.
