AV Club has a best music of the decade list.
I only have maybe 25% of the albums on this list. But what I have is uniformly good. So, maybe I should buy some of the rest of it ?

wow my computer does not like that av club site at all – total freeze / lock up. ugh. bleah.
I have 13 albums from the list, most of which are from the top 20. There’s a lot of ‘best of the naughties’ lists around at the moment and this is one of the best.
Just bought the NME for the first time in years and they have a list – I won’t type in the whole 50, but the top 10 is:
10. Radiohead – In Rainbows.
9. The Streets – Original Pirate Material.
8. Interpol – Turn On The Bright Lights.
7. Arcade Fire – Funeral.
6. PJ Harvey – Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea.
5. Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Fever To Tell.
4. Arctic Monkeys – Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not.
3. Primal Scream – XTRMNTR.
2. The Libertines – Up The Bracket.
1. The Strokes – Is This It?
Arcade Fire, The Strokes and Radiohead have done very well in all the lists I’ve read so far. Most lists also seem to feature Wilco’s Yankee Hotel Foxtrot album which I have somewhere but have never given a really good listen … something I will rectify soonest. :)
I meant ‘noughties’. Sorry.
the top 10 is
finally, a list where i’ve heard of more than 50% of them! (don’t know The Streets)
Wilco’s YFH is pretty great, IMO. definitely a must-hear-start-to-finish kind of record, for me though.
Another! List!

7. Gillian Welch – Time (the Revelator).
6. The White Stripes – Elephant.
5. Bright Eyes – I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning.

Sufjan Stevens – Illinois
nothing tells me that i’m out of touch with new music more than the fact that i can’t stand this record.
