Tennessee man sad, disappointed...

...after being wrongly deported.

BNO News:

Mark Daniel Lyttle, 31, is mentally handicapped, suffers from mental problems, requires insulin for type II diabetes and has depended on others to care for him his entire life. A U.S. Citizen, he was wrongly determined to be a Mexican, deported to Mexico, and left to fend for his survival in a foreign land with no medication, no knowledge of Spanish, and about five to ten pesos. And, following a perilous journey that consisted of wandering in Mexico, Nicaragua and Guatemala and jail time in Honduras, he’s back and he’s upset.

Ya think?

“It’s very traumatizing and it’s very infuriating. I lost all respect for my own country. I’m not perfect, but I didn’t deserve that.” Mark told BNO News. “They’re supposed to be looking out for Americans and they totally didn’t look out for me.”

The Deportation
It all started sometime after July in 2007 when he was charged with misdemeanor of assault on a female for inappropriately touching a female employee at Glencare Assisted Living, a half way house in Holly Ridge, North Carolina. He stayed in the New Hanover Correctional Center in the Wilmington, North Carolina area and after serving 85 days out of a 100-day sentence, he was supposed to be released early on October 16, 2008 for good behavior. That didn’t happen.

Instead, he was turned over to Immigration and Naturalization Services (INS) on October 16, 2008. He claims that a woman who worked for the Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) told him that he was a Mexican citizen by the name of Jose Thomas (possibly Jose Tomas).

WTF?

I usually roll my eyes at anyone who uses the phrase "immigration reform", but we definitely need to reform whatever part of the immigration system was responsible for this.

    Unbelievable.

I also see that Michael Savage is going to sue ‘Britain’. That will be interesting. What’s your take on this? I’m torn. On the one hand, freedom of speech means that people have a right to stand up and spout all sorts of nonsense, but on the other hand, promoting hate and fostering extremism can also be harmful. Tough call. Not sure he fits into the ‘hate speech’ category, but then I’d never heard of him before this week. The laws over here basically say you can’t shout ‘Fire!’ in a crowded theatre – urging people to commit violence gets you arrested (no idea if you have any similar laws) but other than his mind-boggling views on autism and his hatred of Islam, has he ever gone as far as calling for murder?

The UK has plenty of it’s own bigots, and we really don’t need people paying us a visit to spread their particular brand of hate, but secretly banning these people – and then publishing the list – might generate publicity (and, lord help us, support) for their ’cause’.

Savage is a hateful, disgusting, lunatic. but, in the US, that in itself is not a crime. we have laws against inciting violence too (bin Laden was actually charged with it back in 98). but as far as i know, Savage has never really done that (not in a deliberate, pre-meditated, etc. way – i’m sure he’s made some off-hand remarks that could be seen that way. but nothing really serious). i don’t think he’s explicitly asked his listeners to murder anyone, but he’s certainly said some abusive and horribly hateful things. he’s also sued our govt.

to an American, it’s pretty strange to see a country “ban” someone for what they say. amusing, even.

luckily, he’s more infamous than famous. he’s an attention whore who says outrageous things just to attract listeners.

IMO, the best thing to do is point and laugh, if you can’t ignore him outright.

    Hi Cleek,
Don’t ask me to elaborate but your friend, Just Some Fuckhead, has dispatched me here to inquire about your job situation as of 2pm today. He’s unable to get on with his life until he knows the status. For some reason, I am playing the role of carrier pigeon for him tonight.

Can you post an update for him/me on BJ’s open thread, if you get this tonight?
    Thanks.

There’s got to be some kind of back story here. Like possibly Lyttle is an Illuminatus, and the immigration agent who convinced the court he was Mexican was fighting to prevent their takeover of Glencare Assisted Living. Or it was all a smuggling plot gone horribly awry. Something… Performance art? Ancestral feud?
