I Know, It's Only Soukous-lite, But I Like It

Vampire Weekend, that is.

I resisted. I avoided. I read the reviews and scoffed. I previewed and proclaimed it derivative and half-assed. But the buzz would not go away. Finally I bought it. And now I can't stop playing it. Are there subliminal messages in it compelling me to like it, even though I shouldn't ?

A-Punk

Am I over-thinking this?

Side note: hypnotic vampires are nothing to laugh about.

OK, so who do they sound like? Might have to check it out.

I have a pile of new stuff to listen to!

    White Lies
    Animal Collective
    Franz Ferdinand

i can’t think any western rock bands to compare them to. they do a mix of various African styles and nerdy college alternative. it’s very catchy.

the closest thing i can think of in western music is the ska/reggae influence on the Police’s first two records – you can’t miss the influences, but they’re still a British punk band.

    Yes.

The subliminal message is “Let’s have fun now!”, and it’s encoded as tiny colorful fishes.

    Weeeeeeeee!

Warren… gah. i can’t help myself; the crazy just sucks me in. but not anymore. a little judiciously-applied pie will save the day.

You’re right – it IS infectious! Top tip cleek and I owe you one now.

Short though. My commute is about 30 mins and as I pulled into the car park, the last track started playing.
