It’s been years since I’ve heard it, but I don’t remember the studio version of “How Do I Make You” being quite so energetic and new-wavey. The backing band sounds more like Blondie than the Eagles.

Hey, I peeked too, so I can’t give the answer.

Just wanted to say that Ronstadt’s band are burning it up, but I believe they’re the same LA studio rats that show up on all the 70’s SoCal stuff. Looks like Russ Kunkel on drums, Danny Kootch on guitar. Not sure who’s on bass.

I dig Cyndi Lauper. She’s bizarre, but in spite of her kind of weird singing style she has a great, strong voice, with a huge range. She’s an Ozone Park girl!

Fun quiz, I was quite surprised by the answer.

yeah, that’s exactly what i thought. i hadn’t heard the song for decades but after i learned the interesting fact this quiz is based on, i gave it a listen. “Blondie” was the first thing that came to mind. good song, though. if i had a band, i’d suggest it as a cover.

looks like Will Farrell or John C Rielly doing backup vox.

i really didn’t expect anyone to know the answer here (well, maybe an outside chance that Bobby L would know).

I wikipedia’d ‘Like a Virgin’ and the Billy Steinberg connection was obvious. What a talent!

I love music SO much it hurts.

When I was a kid in Germany in ’80 or ’81 I got to see Joe Jackson on th’ Beat Crazy tour. We rapscallions managed to get backstage in an attempt to get Joe’s autograph but were only able to meet the opening band, an interesting New Wave rockabilly band called Blue Angel (B-52’s meet Stray Cats- think of what a brilliant formula that would have been for that era).

The girl singer was this wacky chick with blue hair that spoke all wierd and jersey. Real nice, very young.

A few years later when the “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” video came out I flipped- it was th’ kooky chick from Blue Angel. where’s that autograph???

heh. awesome :) did you really get an autograph?

five or six years back there was a band called “Soul Miner’s Daughter” who did this kind of bluesy hippy folk rock. they were from Georgia but would come up to Raleigh every few months. the band was good, but the star was their singer – this cute blonde girl with a heavy southern accent and a gigantic voice. we saw them a bunch of times in a little club in downtown Raleigh.

eventually that band split up and the singer went off on her own with the “Jennifer Nettles Band”. she did more of a country/blues/soul/rock thing, a little Janis, a little Aretha. still a great singer. and we saw that band a bunch of times in the same club her old band played.

then she stopped doing that and hooked up with a couple of Nashville types, to form Sugarland. they’ve done fairly well.

    she’s quite the celebrity now.

my wife talked to her in the bathroom once. :)
