Please, Stop Breaking Down

I've learned to live with the mild arch pain in my right foot. I assume I'm better off overall if I run than if I try to keep my arch 100% pain free. But now I've started getting pain in my right Achilles tendon, where it attaches to my heel. That seems like something to worry about.

I'm only 46! For the last 8 months, I've been running the best I've ever run! This is bullshit!

    It is bullshit.

Have you put on weight? Either fat or muscle? I can imagine that being a likely cause for foot probs.

      weight’s been steady.

i kindof think i hurt it doing… yardwork at the new house – digging holes for new shrubs, carrying bags of soil. stupid crap like that. that’s my hope anyway. just wearing out for no reason except age is too depressing to accept!

Screw middle age. I’m really feeling old at the moment and it’s depressing.

I suffer with mild Achilles pain in my right heel but it eases off after a few minutes of running and certainly isn’t getting any worse. After a run I massage it with my fingers and it really helps.

But it’s one thing after another with me too. I fell over and bent my foot back till it popped back in March and almost 6 months later I’m trying to start running again. What did I do on Wednesday? Slipped on mud and went flat on my face, bruised my ribs and skinned my knees. Ha! What an idiot. Luckily a) there were no witnesses and b) i didn’t hurt my foot again.

I tried keeping up my fitness during my foot injury recovery by swimming but my running stamina has taken a big hit and at the moment it’s hard work, especially hills. Plus I’m a little paranoid that my foot is never going to be 100% so am not pushing myself too hard.

Still love running though. It’s a nice addiction to have and I’m sure it’s adding years to my life.

    May I recommend something?

    Gravity Defyer shoes.

Not cheap. However, you can get a groupon for $100 credit for $50 and then take that code to their online store. Have a pair. Getting another pair. Best arch support evahhhh……

Terrifying. Yewande had an inflamed Achilles’ tendon in April. For three weeks she was on crutches, and without em she looked like she was walking with a gunshot wound. Step-clump, step-clump. You do not want anything to do with that.

Do you think you’re sleeping on it funny? Like resting your weight on the right one at night?

There’s a video of Kobe Bryant tearing his Achilles, rolling it back down with his hand, then shooting some foul shots.

    It’s educational.

      holy crap.

i think i strained it a bit jumping on the back of my shovel, trying to get it through the soil around the new house. it’s heavy clay, and since it’s been 95deg and sunny for months, the ground is like terracotta.

      that’s my working theory anyway.

could be just overuse. could be general decrepitude.
