Let us listen to Bowie, in memoriam.
Wow. I didn't even know he was sick.
I got to see him once, in 1990 - the "Sound and Vision" tour. I only knew the really big hits and the Ziggy album (because I had that 8-track when I was 6). At that show ,I remember him playing a lot of stuff I didn't know, not being able to tell if they were new or old songs. I knew he'd been around forever, but I really had no idea how extensive his catalog was.
Belew was playing guitar for him on that tour, and they did "Pretty Pink Rose" (which Bowie had written for, and recorded with, Belew ). That was my first time seeing Belew.
Check out Bowie's puffy pirate shirt in this video of that song (from that tour).
We happened to catch the puffy shirt episode of Seinfeld Saturday night, before watching an hour's worth of Bowie videos that VH1 was playing for his birthday. The video for his new song, "Lazarus", was the last one they played. We thought he looked kindof worn out...
Holy crap, does that song and video seem 1,000 times darker, now.
Alas.

Gutted. Going to listen to the new record this evening.
i’m not sure i’m up to that.
that striped suit he was wearing the Lazarus video is from the back cover of Station To Station:
