Huzzah – so I got in an online chat with Dell and said I couldn’t install SP2 and would be happy if they’d just send me a disc with XP that already had SP2 on it and I’d reinstall it myself. Astonishingly, they agreed without a fight and even sent it via overnight mail and it arrived the next day. Couldn’t believe it.
Now, I just have to put all the old files back on it….
i’ve always had good luck with Dell and Dell’s support… except the one time i called about a laptop that wouldn’t stay on, and they said it was probably a dead power supply. out of warranty. cost to replace? $600.
Ugh
The worst part is that they’ve buried, e.g., every mp3 in its own separate folder down 6-8 levels, is there any way to select a top level folder and have all the files contained in the subfolders moved to that folder and the top level one?
By the time I get this done I’ll have another virus. I’ve got webroot spysweeper with firewall and virus sweeper, do I need something that scans for viruses as files are downloaded too?
hmmm. i’m not sure if there’s a simple way to do that or not. but, there’s a two-step way: ZIP the folder, recursively; then extract it all to the same folder.
most virus scanners check files when they’re created, so anything you download is scanned automatically.
