The women were demonized as worse than traitors to the country, lower than spies, and certainly more disgusting because of their chosen vocation, even if it wasn't in fact their chosen vocation. They were at the mercy of their wardens. Medical experiments were performed on them--intimate violations in the search for evidence of that foul disease whereby they, like agents of a foreign power, intended to destroy our fighting forces. Government sanctioned rape on the scale of thousands.
Surely this didn't happen in the US, did it?
