Stormy Weather

"The scriptures make it abundantly clear that a Christian nation that abandons its faith and acts contrary to the Gospel (and in naked breach of a coronation oath) will be beset by natural disasters such as storms, disease, pestilence and war," wrote David Silvester to his local newspaper, the Henley Standard. "I wrote to David Cameron in April 2012 to warn him that disasters would accompany the passage of his same-sex marriage bill."

Whew!

I was worried that the US had a monopoly on fundamentalist Christian idiots!

Yep, we have them too but they usually don’t get much publicity. This guy was (he was sacked today) a local councillor for UKIP, the United Kingdom Independence Party who want us out of Europe and are riding high in the polls on the back of public disquiet about unfettered immigration from former Eastern European countries like Romania, Bulgaria, etc. The UK is quite a conservative country and immigration is a massive topic at the moment which UKIP are capitalising on. They are also splitting the traditional Tory vote many of whom are unhappy with David Cameron cosying up to the Liberal Democrats instead of pushing forward with a much more right-wing agenda. I don’t agree with DC on much but he is no homophobe unlike many others on the right. This Silvester guy actually defected to UKIP last year because of DC’s push to legalise gay marriage. UKIP is full of loons like this I’m sure but the other parties are absolutely terrified of them which is making UK politics a little more exciting to be honest!

On the back of this guys comments someone has created a “UKIP Weather Report” Twitter account taking the piss with such jewels as:

“A lingering look between 2 men at a gym in York has sparked concerns from residents living near the River Ouse”

“The early sunshine in the Cotswolds has been replaced by cloud after a man spent a suspiciously long time grooming his facial hair”

    And so on. @UkipWeather
