Hey, you know who was a pretty good guitar player?
Jimi Hendrix.
I've been trying to learn the studio version of Red House, just as a technical challenge, and it's kicking my ass.

Don’t forget: He’s doing what you can’t do with TERRIBLE TECHNIQUE! Just watch him play with his guitar down around his hips and playing with the flat part of his fingers instead of the fingertips. And then stop watching because it’s bad for you.
I play Wind Cries Mary as a solo piece. It works well if sing-speak the words Lou Reed style. Also playing it in E, as he did live, rather than F, allows you to let some bass notes ring out under the solo part.
All you need is 10 or 15 years of playing every night (sometimes twice a day) on the chitlin circuit that used to exist. And being born with “the musical gift” that these artists seem to be blessed with with. And “wearing a guitar on your shoulder every waking minute” that a lot of Jimi observers have witnessed. Other than that: you’re good to go.
