Here's my new Congressional district!

Ain't it swell? It's about 80 miles, top to bottom.
I have no idea what most of downtown Raleigh, all of Chapel Hill, the non-military parts of Fayetteville, and the west side of Durham have in common with the vast rural wilderness that makes up most all the rest on the district.
But check out that little pinch in the middle. What's that all about?

IIRC under federal legislation congressional districts have to be contiguous, thus the pinch is likely there to satisfy that requirement so as to include Fayetteville in the district and also include the maximum number of “right thinking” voters in the other districts.
i suppose.
i like that a sandbar in the middle of a river can satisfy ‘contiguous’.
My guess is that the river counts even without the sandbar.
I was stationed at Ft Bragg for a few months in the 60’s. I have vague memories of hoagies and Fanta soda.
Hey Cleek,
A bunch of non-Republican concern trolls up here in MD are upset that the Dems here gerrymandered the hell out of things. Given that at the national level gerrymandering is a “prisoner’s dilemma,” I’m _glad_ they did—why the hell should Dems play nice, especially when the ‘thugs are overrepresented in the national House by, what, 5% or something?
BTW, how come you don’t post many comments over at balloon juice anymore? Busy, or has the Obot love fest become too much?
