Clever Siri

Me, trying to find a nearby cheap place for a crappy haircut in my new town: Haircut
Siri: I like your hair fine just the way it is.

Me, trying to find a car wash in my new town: Carwash
Siri: Cars should wash themselves. That's what I think.

    Ha ha, very funny.

I do get the appeal of having the AI respond cleverly when you say something clever. But clearly the engineers are taking things a little far, and probably patting themselves on the back for it.

(I’m reminded of a time in 8th grade when I made an error-catching routine, chewing out the user for trying to divide by zero. My teacher pointed out that ordinary input could lead to this exception, and maybe I shouldn’t be so pleased with my witty response.)

I guess the real upshot here is that Siri wants you to talk to her in full sentences, and she’s training you by responding to one-word input like a smart-ass teenager.

    Ha!

The Google Now voice recognition system in Android Jellybean is pretty damn good tbh. It gets most of my queries correct and then reads me back the details in a plummy English accent.
