Favorite records of 2012

An acceptable year. Here are my three favorite new records.

1. Gentleman Jesse - Leaving Atlanta
2. Alabama Shakes - Boys And Girls
3. Divine Fits - A Thing Called Divine Fits

Interestingly, each of these sounds like it could've been made decades ago. The 70s, 60s and 80s, respectively. That's what I hear in almost every record I've bought this year, actually. And what doesn't sound old, I haven't really liked. I'm old too, I guess.

Anyway, check out those records. Good stuff.

You?

    Merry Christmas Cleekazoids!

    1. A + E – Graham Coxon
    2. The 2nd Law – Muse
    3. Blunderbuss – Jack White

Graham Coxon easily steals this. It’s a great record, and once again he manages to change his sound whilst still sounding the same. If you know what I mean.

Muse, love ’em or hate ’em they have the whole rock opera/Queen-style bombast down to perfection and this record is no exception.

Jack White released a solo record full of gems that sounds like it could of been recorded 30 years ago.

Runners up include Alabama Shakes and Grizzly Bear.

2013 will bring a new Thom Yorke record, a new Yeah Yeah Yeahs record and, with any luck, a new National LP. I can’t wait!

  2. James Gary

Good recommendations…I actually had a similar “I’m old” moment last year when I realized the only two records of 2011 I *really* liked were by Yuck and Wild Flag. (But at least those two only hearken back to the ’90s—so I’m not as ancient as *you*, Cleek. ;) )
