From an old Spin article on the 10 Most Accurately-Rated Bands:
- [My Bloody Valentine's] Loveless sold about 200,000 copies. This is the correct number of people on earth who should be invested in the concept of swirling guitars.
From an old Spin article on the 10 Most Accurately-Rated Bands:
Loveless never clicked with me, but I don’t think I’ve ever given it much of a chance (I have always cringed when a track has appeared during shuffle play). So I am going to try it again, right now. All my friends (well, three of them at least) _love_ this CD and are amazed I ‘don’t get it’. However, seeing as plenty of other great albums have sounded wank on first listen, but have grown in my heart, I’ll try again. I did actually buy the fucking thing about 10 years ago based on rave word-of-mouth reviews alone.
i love the thing. but i can see how it would rub some people the wrong way.
for me it’s a headphones-and-no-distractions kind of record. a few beers before helps a little, too.
>a few beers before helps
After listening to it properly, I think something much stronger is required… :) And this is, IMHO, the real reason this album is popular with those of a certain age and – ahem – disposition. I’ll add a review to my blog soon.
i (barely) remember the first time i heard it – it was very late night after very many beers… sitting on a couch. it was perfect.
and it probably sounds a little dated, now, too, if you’re hearing it (or listening to it) for the first time.
