i remember the first computer i bought (at Computer City)… i was still in college and i bought it with a store credit card (even though i had my own Visa), for the “instant discount”. i didn’t read the fine print, and it turns out i had unwittingly signed-up for some life insurance policy, which charged me a monthly fee – i discovered on the next CC statement.
a couple of angry phone calls got rid of it, but… that’s the last store CC i’ll ever sign up for.
It’s hardly a “trick” to just “sign you up anyway.” But jeebus.
