The Perpetual Outrage Machine

Just when I was starting to read political blogs again, Balloon Juice reminds me why I stopped.

It's all angry people looking for, or creating, reasons to express their anger.

WTF? I admire Glenn for his consistency and legal knowledge, even though he’s somewhat of a polemicist (by his own admission, IIRC), but ABL seems to be purely on the polemic side (while making good points along the way).

Just strange and I still can’t figure out what Glenn said. Supporters would defend the rape itself standing alone, or “let it slide” because the alternative is President Romney/Gingrich/Santorum?

The twitter, it confuses I guess.

You know what gets under my skin? The ones who not only aren’t angry, but are angry at you for not being as angry as they are. They want to pull us all down into their outrage; we’re not as principled as they are until we’re throwing the same kicking and screaming fit.

Jesus, a couple months ago somebody was calling Mnemosyne, of all people, a rape apologist because she wasn’t ready to take up rakes and torches to Mike McQueary during the Paterno scandal. It’s not enough to be on the right side of the issues, you have to be on them with burning anger.

      yep. exactly.

calling Mnemosyne, of all people, a rape apologist
      hilarious.

that’s some serious narcissism of small differences right there.

few are as tiresome as the enraged self-righteous.

i tell ya, take a week or two off from political blogs (which is plenty of time for a new set of outrages to cycle through) and you’ll likely be shocked, when you return, by how petty and pointless it all is. i was, anyway. the amount of passion people put into arguing for the sake of arguing is astounding.

Cleek – does Ron Paul have a chance in 2012? The UK media are all over him at the moment.

      nope, not a chance.

he’s definitely something different, and he has a passionate following, but he’s seriously far outside the mainstream on most issues. right now, he’s riding the anybody-but-Romney wave (as did Trump, Bachmann, Cain and Gingrich). but he’s never had much national attention; he’s always been just the goofy guy in the back of the pack that the media ignored. and i expect his recent surge in support will evaporate once (if) the media shines the spotlight on him for real.

i’ll be surprised if he wins a single primary.
