cleek – do you know anything about changing and/or anonymizing IP addresses?

Specifically, say, just hypothetically, not that this really happened or anything, someone may or may not have been commenting on a site that may or may not be referred to as Bizarro World in certain parts and said someone may or may not have been banned from said site, and said someone may or may not wish to sign back up at said site in order to participate in the rational discourse that occurs there bring some sense to the madness that is that site (said someone not being you but someone who may or may not have commented on this blog earlier this week), without tracing the IP address back to the one that may or may not have been banned?

I ask because you seem to have some familiarity with programming languages and I made the (probably wrong) inference that you may know how to do this.

No worries if you don’t (or even if you do and don’t care to share).

Don’t ask why said someone may or may not wish to sign up again at said site.

there are publicly-available IP proxy servers that you can hide behind, if you want to mask your IP address. since i’m at work right now, i can’t give you any links (the firewall we have blocks everything that even hints at such things). but Google ‘proxy IP address’ and you’ll see what’s out there. it’s possible BW has blocked IPs originating at popular proxies. i would :)

i do know, however, that it’s entirely possible to sign-up at BW with a new name using the same IP that a previously-banned name used.

Yeah, but if you say anything against the party orthodoxy remotely reasonable they check it and compare to banned ones, then threaten to talk to your ISP if there’s a match.

I’ll give “the Google” a try, thanks.
