Boy did I watch a lot of MTV when it was Music Television. I know it’s all been said, but what a time it was… so much diversity. Not only did they play a wide variety of then-current releases, but they would toss in bits from the pre-MTV-1970’s as well. It was rock and pop and to a lesser extent R&B, but there were occasional nuggets of country and jazz as well.
I guess that reflected the state of radio at the time. The industry just wasn’t as Balkanized as it later became under the tutelage of mega corporate mergers.

I think the first time I saw it, c 81 or 82, I couldn’t stop watching it and stayed up until 3 in the morning. Hypnotized.
