Start Your iPods

On this Monday, foggy, sleepy, the iPod plays for me:

  1. Sigur Ros - Viorar vel til loftarasa. A ten minute, atmospheric (well, of course, it's Sigur Ros), piano and strings piece.
  2. Nine Inch Nails - The Collector. The iPod loves NiN.
  3. Gastr Del Sol - A Puff of Dew. Another long atmospheric piece. This is not helping me wake up.
  4. Thom Yorke - Skip Divided
  5. Fleetwood Mac - Sisters Of The Moon
  6. Flaming Lips - Brainville. If I squint, can hear what this would sound like as performed by the new electronics-happy F-Lips. It makes me sad.
  7. Stereolab - Outer Accelerator
  8. Rolling Stones - Melody. Meh.
  9. Interpol - Stella Was a Diver. Yeah. Me like. Stelllllaaaa-haaahhh!
  10. Jimi Hendrix Experience - 51st Anniversary. Not a great song, but I like listening to Jimi play, regardless of what he's playing. "You must be losing your *inhale / slow exhale* weak little mind..."

    Nice.

BTW, forget iTunes 7 – I have had a lot of problems with it. Currently it is using 125MB of RAM, and I am not doing anything clever (the flashy new cover art mode isn’t even enabled). It is using more memory and handles than Visual Studio 2005 FFS, which is very disappointing. It is very sluggish too. A lot of people seem to be having sound quality problems too, so best wait for the next update Cleeky boy.

    too late :)
already installed it. and it’s been giving me stuttering playback on-and-off from the first time i started it.

i checked out the support forum on apple.com and the “windows playback problems” thread is dominating the view counts.

hopefully, they’ll have an update soon.

There is a fix for the stuttering playback (via the QuickTime Control Panel option – set the sound settings to 16 bit). Not been a problem for me, thankfully – downgrading to v6 shouldn’t be too difficult as a last resort though…

nah, that fix didn’t help. the defaults were already set there.

yeah, my wife called me downstairs to watch that White Stripes bit. it was hillarious. the writing is definitely better this year… finally.

Ack! Today, for the first time, I am getting stuttering playback when I, for example, minimize other windows! Sigh. I hope Apple pull something out of the bag soon.

    Cleek & Rob:

I jumped into iTunes 7 way too early. Now I gots nothing. iTunes fails to launch (I’m a Mac guy from way back) and the rest of my system is wonky. I’ve “downgraded” to 6.0.5, but it didn’t fix it. I fear I have to wait until a fix comes out and try to upgrade again, or wipe the OS and start fresh. It is supremely infuriating to a guy who knows his way around a mac! I can’t get any help at the forums, have tried macfixit and other sites, but to no avail. I have about 80 gigs of music that are currently innaccessible to me now.

Crap. Stay away from any new software that doesn’t have a second revision….

Still working the iPod, but not all my newest stuff is on there.

    ouch. that sucks.

apple really screwed up with this release. it’s pretty amazing that they’d let something like this out the door.

i finally dropped my iPod in the dock after the iTunes upgrade… it tried to update the iPod software, but i think it failed. the little “updating iPod” dialog came up and stayed up… i let it run for eight hours before i killed iTunes. iTunes7 is such crap.
