Through The Stupid Glass

Sullivan:

“Has any network ever put almost every possible Republican candidate on the air as paid employees and then interviewed them as if it were journalism? Could you imagine any serious news network broadcast the Hannity-Palin interview, which must surely have made even [Fox News chief] Ailes cringe a little at its lugubrious fawning and cult-worship?”

I sometimes like to re-cast these kinds of situations as if they were happening in China or Iran or Italy (basically any country with exotic politics that we superior Americans like to mock), and then to imagine the reaction, upon hearing this news, of the very same American jingoes who watch Fox. “In Italy [snort!], the politicians of one party all work for a single TV station and they pretend to be journalists while campaigning! [WTF face] It allows them to violate the spirit of campaign finance laws! And it doesn't hurt their credibility in the least. The people buy it! [OMG!] We would never stand for such a thing in America! [Harrumph!]”

It's fun to assume my presumptive opponents are idiots.

Nothing to do with this, but I thought you might appreciate this:

While going through the music quiz last night and copying some video files from DVD that I found in a container next to my desk my Ubuntu system just locks up. So I restart and it seems to do it again when I try to play a music quiz link. The mouse moves but I can’t click on anything. So, I’m thinking it is a Firefox extension so I restart Firefox with a clean profile. Does it again after a while. Then as I am moving the mouse around I notice that the right button context menu pops up occasionally. And everywhere I click it restarts playing a music quiz clip. Even tried reinstalling my video drivers thinking it was a graphics problem. No dice.

Then, when the right click context menu pops up again I look around and realize that the lid to the container I found that DVD in was sitting on the second mouse I had hooked to the machine and pressing on the right button. I wasted a couple of hours searching for a problem and it was nothing more than a messy desk.

I have a really nice one but it is too big for the kids’s hands so they have one of those laptop mice. Plus I am left handed and it is apparently way too much trouble to move the mouse to the other side of the keyboard.
