Kicking Ass For Civility

Who's to blame for the VT killings ? Hmmm... Let's see if Chuck Norris knows.

Though one can point to Cho's own psychotic behavior and our graphic slasher media as potential contributors to his deplorable murder spree, we must also hesitate to consider how we as a society are possibly contributing to the growth of these academic killing fields.

Nah, fuckadatshit - what am I, my brother's keeper ? But about our "graphic slasher media"... Do you, Chuck, mean this stuff... ?

A Force Of One - 1978
The Octagon - 1979
An Eye For An Eye - 1980
Silent Rage - 1981
Forced Vengeance - 1981
Lone Wolf McQuade - 1982
Missing In Action - 1984
Missing In Action II: The Beginning - 1985
Code Of Silence - 1985
Invasion USA - 1985
Delta Force - 1986
Firewalker - 1986
Braddock: Missing In Action III - 1987
Hero And The Terror - 1988
Delta Force 2: Operation Stranglehold - 1990
The Hitman - 1991
Sidekicks - 1993
Hellbound - 1994
Top Dog - 1995
Forrest Warrior

No, probably not. That's not graphic "slasher" media, that's graphic ass-kickin, gun fetish, revenge fantasy media, which is completely unrelated to a mentally disturbed kid playing out his revenge fantasies with guns.

Does that mean I think Chuck is responsible for what happened at VT? Nope. But I do think Chuck should be a little more careful where he swings that broad brush of his. Personally, I'd like it if we could dial-back on the amount of violence in movies of all kinds - including Chuck's kind.

If we are ever to restore civility in our land and our schools, we must turn back the clocks to a time when such shocking crimes didn't even exist – when we valued life and respected one another much more then we do today.

Chuck, being a Bible nut as well as a foot-and-gun nut, should know that the only time such shocking crimes didn't exist were the years between Adam and Eve's first big adventure and the murder of their son, Abel, by their other son, Cain. I'm not sure I want to turn the clocks back that far.

Boneheads For Bush

It's science day at Blogs For Bush!

The two major flaws in evolutionary theory are that it can't explain how life arose from lifelessness,

Einstein's Theory of Relativity can't explain it, either. And here we all thought Einstein was so smart. Well, ya couldn't fool us forever, could ya Albert? Ya big phony!

...and it can't explain how my material brain plays host to my immaterial mind (or thoughts, if you like). If we are all the result of inexorable evolutionary processes, then I shouldn't be able to have any thought which does not immediately coincide with the last thought in my brain...I could not, as it were, think one second about space flight and the next about a cheese sandwich.

There's just so much stupid packed into those two-and-a-half sentences, I... I don't even know where to begin. Just the thought of peeling back layer after layer of idiocy in this onion of dumb makes me weep. Space flight and cheese sandwiches ? What ?

But, its profound stupidity is illuminating, in a way: it shows the quality of thought that's required of a Bush supporter these days. (via)

30 Second Reviews

Things I've purchased recently (now with my patented Null ratings):

  • Viva Voce - Get Yr Blood Sucked Out. Live, these two came across like a stripped-down stoner-rock band. On record, that heavy stomp is almost nowhere to be found. I still like it, it's just not what I was expecting. 3 Nulls ∅∅∅.
  • Blonde Redhead - 23. Continuing to distance themselves from the raw guitar attack of their first three records, they make another electronics-heavy record. Highlights include some MBV-ish guitar wash on one of the songs. 2 Nulls ∅∅.
  • Neil Young - Live at Massey Hall. This is an acoustic set from '71. It's good. I like it. It's a nice contrast to the all-electric live record from the same period that he put out last year. ∅∅∅∅.
  • The Oxford Collapse - Remember the Night Parties. In the same vein as, oh I dunno, the louder bits of British Sea Power and The Good, The Bad and The Queen - but tighter, more direct, more rocking, heavy on the The Archers Of Loaf. And they're not British, they're from Brooklyn - and that surprised me. Sometimes it sounds like they keep playing that one song I really like over and over. ∅∅∅
  • Yo La Tengo - Painful. Don't know why I waited so long to get this one. It's YLT right in the sweet spot of their guitar-centered years. Love it. ∅∅∅∅.
  • Andrew Bird - Armchair Apocrypha. It's not as immediately catchy as his last one, so it's taking me a while to get into. But, it's looking good so far. ∅∅∅
