Dr Ben Carson, Shitty Historian

"This nation, USA, one of the few nations in history to claim God in their founding documents, we talk about, in our Declaration of Independence, certain inalienable rights given to us by our creator. Every one of our coins, every one of our bills says "in god we trust". Now I want to you to think about something: this nation has had a profound effect on the world. before the USA came on the scene, for 100 years, 200 years, 1000 years, 3000 years, people did things the same way: crops ready, you put em on the cart, hooked up your mules, took them into town, sold the crop. Within 200 years of the advent of this nation, which believed in god, men were walking on the moon. Completely revolutionized and changed the world because a nation was willing to acknowledge god. "

Now wait just a minute.
First of all, while the US got the man on the moon, godless commie Russia beat the US to space, twice.

But, the reason many people came to the Americas in the centuries before the USA was founded was to escape the oppressive, Christian, state religions in Europe at the time. For one example, in 1559, it had become illegal in England to not attend Church of England services. That's a big reason the Pilgrims eventually left England for the Americas - to escape state-enforced, Christian, religion.

How much more acknowledgement does god need from a country than to make it illegal to not worship him? But no, no space station for Queen Elizabeth.

And, come on, putting "endowed by our creator" in a declaration of independence (independence from, again, a Christian nation) is pretty weak tea compared to, say, The Spanish Inquisition. Making your country pure Catholic by driving away heretics and non-believers has to count as acknowledgement! Why didn't Ferdinand and Isabella get a space program out of that?

And why doesn't the Vatican have a moon base?

Plus, the first nation to officially declare itself to be Christian did so more than a millennium prior to the founding of the USA:

Armenia has its own church, the Armenian Apostolic Church, which most Armenians follow. It was founded in the 1st century AD, and in 301 AD became the first branch of Christianity to become a state religion.

What did Armenia do so wrong that god refused to give them astronauts?

You're Welcome, Sir

Obama: "And then it turns out, they can't handle a bunch of CNBC moderators," he said. "If you can't handle those guys, I don't think the Chinese and the Russians are going to be too worried about you."

uh huh.

Compare and contrast

Ten Republican Presidential candidates share 2 hours of questions from pro-business journalists then spend the next three days whining like petulant children.

Hillary Clinton spends 11 hours, under oath, as the sole focus of a GOP-led Congressional grilling, completely humiliates them and comes away looking like a goddamned gladiator.

Answering awkward questions is too much to ask of the GOP candidates, but they each want to be President? Will they threaten to boycott summit talks if Putin won't promise to ask only nice easy questions?

Carson! Because we're idiots!

The poll told GOP respondents, “I’m going to mention some things people have said about Ben Carson. Regardless of whether you support him for president, please tell me for each if this is something that you find very attractive about him, mostly attractive, mostly unattractive, or very unattractive.”

If we combine “very attractive” and “mostly attractive” responses, these are Iowa Republicans’ positive feelings about Ben Carson:

  1. “He is not a career politician”: 85%
  2. “He has no experience in foreign policy”: 42%
  3. “He was highly successful as a neurosurgeon”: 88%
  4. “He has said the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, is the worst thing since slavery”: 81%
  5. ”He has an inspirational personal story”: 85%
  6. “He has raised questions about whether a Muslim should ever be president of the United States”: 73%
  7. “He has said he would be guided by his faith in God”: 89%
  8. “He has said that Hitler might not have been as successful if the people had been armed”: 77%
  9. “He approaches issues with common sense”: 96%
  10. “He has conducted research on tissue from aborted fetuses”: 31%

Man Cashes in Cans to Support Trump

Johnny Bradley decorated a box truck with the words “Donald Trump for President,” and he paid for the signage by cashing in 25,000 cans he collected during the past year.

He says not everyone who sees the truck is a fan.

"When we was up in Connecticut, I had three people give me the finger, but I just waved at them,” he said with a smile.

Bradley says he believes his fellow voters are tired of Washington politics, and Trump would be a breath of fresh air.

The video at the linked page is great.

Fail!

The Democrats who participated in the first Democratic Presidential debate of the 2016 campaign garnered a scathing review from the retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, who said that none of them offered a concrete plan to protect the Earth from an invasion of bloodthirsty alien dragons.

“A swarm of marauding dragons with the capacity to shoot flames a thousand feet or more could destroy life on this planet as we know it,” Carson told Fox News. “And yet not a single one of these Democrats has apparently given any thought to such a threat.”

I didn't want to. Mrs wanted to. So, it was on. I tried sitting in the same room with it for a half hour, but the inanity drove me upstairs. Still, I could hear it. I resigned and went back downstairs and tried to ignore it by playing Carrot Fantasy. Didn't work. The dumb penetrates. Then they started talking about abortion and that shit was too crazy even for Mrs. So that was that.

Social Anxiety Disorder

Sanders proudly calls himself “a socialist”. So why is a lover of communism – an evil socialist hell-bent on the destruction of good-and-proper capitalism – doing so well in a political contest in America? Are we finally gearing up for a violent uprising of the proletariat?

Not quite: even the word “socialist” just isn’t that terrible anymore.

Yeah, um, no.

While no national poll has yet to test Sanders in a trial heat against the Republican field, a June 2015 Gallup poll found that being a self-described socialist -- as Sanders is -- is more unpopular for a presidential candidate than being an evangelical Christian, Muslim or atheist.

According to the poll, 50 percent said they wouldn't vote for a socialist, compared with 40 percent who wouldn't vote for an atheist, 38 percent for a Muslim and 25 percent for an evangelical Christian.

It bears mentioning that Sanders isn't actually a socialist. Because, among other things, he's not calling for the state to take over the means of production.

Don't Run

Really, Mr Webb. Do not run for President - especially not as a Democrat. It won't go well if you do.

This is an emotional time and we all need to think through these issues with a care that recognizes the need for change but also respects the complicated history of the Civil War. The Confederate Battle Flag has wrongly been used for racist and other purposes in recent decades. It should not be used in any way as a political symbol that divides us.

It's far too late to stop the Confederate Battle Flag from being used to divide the country, since the goal of the Confederacy was to literally divide the country. They seceded, remember? Formed an army, waved that flag around? Hundreds of thousands died as a result?

And as for "racist purposes"? Again, too late! It's been a symbol of racism from its inception. The Confederacy was created to preserve slavery. That's no northerner's revisionist history, either. To know the Confederacy's intentions, we need only read the declarations of secession that the Confederate states issued.
