Start Your iPods

This Monday, the iPod starts with...

  1. Death Cab for Cutie - Company Calls. This one sounds a lot like a band from Buffalo from way back in the day, Tugboat Annie.
  2. The Libertines - The Boy Looked At Johnny
  3. Beastie Boys - Looking Down The Barrel of a Gun. There's no way to listen to this without thinking of SNL's "Lazy Sunday".
  4. Portastatic - Silver Screw. This might as well be a Superchunk Song.
  5. Colorblind James Experience - In These Days Ahead
  6. Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb. Hmm. That seems unnecessary.
  7. Robert Johnson - I Believe I'll Dust My Broom. I believe that's a fine idea.
  8. John Coltrane - While My Lady Sleeps. While my lady sleeps, I play Supreme Commander.
  9. Nirvana - Oh Me (live)
  10. Colleen - Your Heart is So Loud. Could you turn it down a little?

And we're off...

Après la purge, le iPod starts the week with...

  1. Miles Davis - Diane. Yummy.
  2. The Pixies - No.13 Baby. Yummy.
  3. Sonic Youth - Blink. A Kim song...
  4. Flaming Lips - Be My Head. From way back in the olden days, before they discovered shiny electronics.
  5. Yo La Tengo - How To Make A Baby Elephant Float. Sadly, after the time when they discovered lounge music.
  6. REM - Exhuming McCarthy. Never cared for this one.
  7. Robyn Hitchcock - The Cheese Alarm (BBC). Never cared much for this one, either.
  8. Leon Redbone - Shine On Harvest Moon
  9. Son Volt - Windfall. Nice.
  10. Superchunk - Cool. Like this one. "Sometimes I fear I neglect to think".

A pretty typical line-up, I guess.
Coincidentally, I've seen the bottom 8 bands live (though the F'lips, just barely): SY 3 times and Robyn H 4 times. And next month I get to see Robyn with Peter Buck from REM (he's part of Robyn's latest band).

Ho Ho Ho, what will the iPod choose this week?

  1. Flaming Lips - One Million Billionth of a Millisecond on a Sunday Morning. Getting into their lo-fi Pink Floyd vibe.
  2. Robyn Hitchcock - Certainly Clickot
  3. Jimi Hendrix - Hear My Train a-Comin' (live). Wow.
  4. Blonde Redhead - Kazuality. Ah.... I missed liking Blonde Redhead.
  5. Van Halen - Loss Of Control. Eddie's just inhumanly fast all the way through this - even the rhythm parts are unbelievable. The song's not so hot, though.
  6. Van Morrison - Glad Things
  7. The Cure - Close To Me. The happiest song in the world.
  8. Radiohead - The Tourist
  9. Joni Mitchell - Just Like This Train. Too 70's.
  10. The Beatles - Mr. Moonlight. Too 50's.

Good enough. Onward!
On second thought... I'm getting sick of seeing the same handful of bands every week on these Monday AM lists. Time to thin out some of the overrepresented bands.
