.Net Nuke

Several Republicans have criticized President Obama for placing new limits on the use of U.S. nuclear weapons, but Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., raised eyebrows among liberal foreign policy observers by suggesting during a Wednesday rally with Sarah Palin that the American nuclear arsenal is needed even to deter cyber attacks.

"If in fact there is a nation who is compliant with all of the rules ahead of time and they've complied with the United Nations on nuclear proliferation, if they fire against the United States a biological weapon, a chemical weapon or maybe a cyber attack, well then we aren't going to be firing back with nuclear weapons," Bachmann said. "Doesn't that make us all feel safe?"

This country's going insaaaaannnne.

Two Great Tastes

I never would've suspected that the grassy astringency of Japanese mecha green tea (today's cup of tea) and the salty peppery meatiness of JerkyUSA's pork / cranberry jerky (today's mid-morning snack) would work well together.

But, they do!

This is a glorious day to have a mouth.

I have another bit of knowledge to share: do not do a Google image search on "mouth", unless you have a strong stomach.

Triple Word Fail

The rules of word game Scrabble are being changed for the first time in its history to allow the use of proper nouns, games company Mattel has said.

What an unnecessary thing to do.

Mattel, which brings out a new version of the game containing amended rules in July, hopes the change will encourage younger people to play.

Bah!

It will continue to sell a board with the original rules.

Instead of adding one sentence to the rules: "A variation for younger players: allow proper nouns," they're coming out with an entire new package ?

Feh!

They should just tell kids to play Scrabble on Facebook - it allows all kinds of wacky words, plus it has a built-in dictionary and will tell when you words try to play illegal words! How much easier can it get ?

Update:

Here's what's actually happening. Mattel, which owns the rights to Scrabble outside of North America, is introducing a game this summer called Scrabble Trickster. The game will include cards that allow players to spell words backward, use proper nouns, and steal letters from opponents, among other nontraditional moves. The game will not be available in North America, where rival toy company Hasbro owns Scrabble. Hasbro, I'm told, has no plans for a similar variation.
