Start Your iPods

Since I work sit on my ass at home these days, and I don't do Shuffle at home, I'm going to do a Genius list this week.

So, get your black lipstick out, it's time to rock it Goth style!

  1. The Cure - Primary. Don't hear a lot of songs with two basses and no guitars.
  2. Cocteau Twins - Sugar Hiccup
  3. Joy Division - New Dawn Fades
  4. The Cure - A Forest
  5. Love And Rockets - All In My Mind (Acoustic). That's a pleasant little song.
  6. Sonic Youth - Dirty Boots. I just remembered that one of my bands actually tried to play this. I've blocked that memory, for the last 15 years.
  7. Bauhaus - Third Uncle. Compare to the original.
  8. Pixies - Bone Machine. The Pixies are the best band ever.
  9. Love And Rockets - No Big Deal
  10. The Cure - Play For Today. Ah... wallow in the lovely grey gloom.

Genius!

Sandra’s Havin Her Brain Out (she feels alright) by the Soft Boys. It’s like tonsils — more trouble than they’re worth.
Full Moon In My Soul by Robyn Hitchcock. Indispensable link in the chain of Hitchcockian lunar reference. Put down the telephone, it’s me that’s calling anyhow, is a favorite line of mine.
Zip Zip by the Soft Boys (sweet behavior on the part of my music shuffling mechanism!)
    I’m Ready by Taj Mahal
Georgia Crawl by Henry Williams (old-time fiddle tune) — with Eddy Anthony on vocals
I Hear Music by Billy Holiday & her Orchestra (from Bob Dylan’s Starbucks Artist’s Choice disc — it is a really nice selection, I recommend acquiring it.)
Too Too Train Blues by Big Bill Broonzy
Queen of Eyes by the Soft Boys
The Black Crow Knows by Robyn Hitchcock
    High Water by Bob Dylan

OK, I don’t have ‘Primary’ so I chose one of my favourite Cure songs:

    1. The Cure – Lullaby.
    2. New Order – Broken Promise.
    3. The Jesus & Mary Chain – Blues From A Gun.
    4. Morrissey – Friday Mourning.
    5. My Bloody Valentine – Blown A Wish.
    6. New York Dolls – Looking For A Kiss.
    7. Smashing Pumpkins – Real Love.
    8. Depeche Mode – Only When I Lose Myself.
    9. The Clash – Cheat.
    10. Siouxsie & The Banshees – Paradise Place.

Not very goth but an interesting list nonetheless.
