Dead female black widow on our front porch. We found it after I'd finished picking weeds out of our mulch... barefoot in shorts. Sweet!
I may never do yardwork again. Tragedy.

did you not have these in NY? i guess they’ve never bothered me because i’ve seen them my whole life. don’t worry–the odds are stacked in your favor.
according to the species info on the web, they’re in NY, too. but i never saw one, even though i spent a lot of time outside when i was a kid.
I kept one as a pet (“Beavis”) in a jar for a while in Cali and a minor earthquake knocked th’ jar off the shelf one night and I awoke to a broken jar and a house with a missing, pissed off black widow. Never found that little fucker.

i went out to get the mail just now, and there was another one dead, not a foot from the first (which is still laying there).
well, at least they’re dead.
