“Yes – Long Distance Runaround”
Did we really count to…. one…. hun…. dred?
If you remember the scene from Wayne’s World where Wayne, Garth, and their buds were driving around in Wayne’s mom’s Pacer singing “Bohemian Rhapsody”, then you have vicariously experienced my adolescence. Except replace anything by “Yes” for “Bohemian Rhapsody”.
Sweet. Even if cheesy. Kind of sweet cheese, I guess.
“Deerhoof – The Perfect Me”
That was pretty interesting. Deliberately difficult, but those guys are good players.
“The Dickies, Paranoid.”
The Dickies, Nights in White Satin. My first gig ever was at the Rose Lounge in Commack NY, in 1971, when I was 14. We used to sneak in there to drink. They had “Nights in White Satin” on the jukebox and I thought if I ever heard that song again I would puke.
Now, it has been redeemed.
“Billy Idol, Rebel Yell.”
You know, the man turned punk into a cartoon, but what the f*ck. He rocks it to a nub. He’s the Elvis of Mohawks, and that ain’t a bad thing to be.
In the midnight hour, she cried more, more, more.
i like Yes. they’re pretentious and wankerriffic, but i don’t care. they make me smile inside.
Mongo Santamaria “Watermelon Man” – i like that video. so bright and colorful, here in the pre-dawn darkness.
John Coltrane “Syeeda’s Song Flute” – now that drummer is steamin (literally)! was it an outdoor show?
Talking Heads, New Feeling. – i just bought a DVD copy of this show. can’t wait to watch it!
and here’s a totally different take on Nights in White Satin. and speakin of Doc, i’ve been trying to learn this for years, but i ain’t got the right hand for it.
Woah. Is that the Live in Rome DVD I’ve just spotted on Amazon? (Youtube is blocked at work). No-one told me this was coming out … click … ordered!
I owe you one Cleek.
yep. that’s the one!
Hey, I think that’s the “Stop Making Sense” (aka, “What’s With The Big Suit”) tour.
At the risk of reinforcing my status as resident cranky grandpa, I saw that band & tour in Philly back in 80 or 81. Steel Pulse opened.
Talking Heads freaking killed, they were at the top of their form, with great sidemen, and they were having the time of their lives. What a great show.
almost :)
this tour (for the “Remain In Light” album) was the one just before the Big Suit tour, which was for the “Speaking In Tongues” album (“Stop Making Sense” is a line from Burning Down The House, which is on that record).
i wish i could’ve seen them – esp with the crew in that clip. man, what a band!
My Talking Heads DVD arrived today. The picture quality is abysmal (it would probably look better on a CRT) and the sound quality isn’t brilliant, but I shall plough through it nonetheless. :)
HD has spoiled us all!
:)
Life During Wartime. Wow. Just … wow.
So, how’s work going? Is it still pants?
I’ve survived the purge at our place (and my team thankfully, one of my new guys relocated from up north back in November so if he’d of been on the list, I’d of felt bloody terrible).
I have a new boss now though, which is interesting – we go back a long way actually, so I’m pretty optimistic about that part of it.
We let some really good people go though. Sales, marketing, consultants and support people, but the code monkeys were spared. One of the sales girls was made redundant the same week as her husband who worked at another tech company. Harsh.
I’m scared to watch the news. Every day it seems to get more depressing.
But, hey, that MGMT record is the dogs bollocks.
good to hear you survived!
things are looking a little better here. current rumors are that we’ll have our jobs at least until March. and then we find out if we’re being outsourced or not.
companies all around are laying off huge numbers of people though. and this stuff usually seems to be contagious.
that DVD….
i could do without the giant “MC” in the corner.
but, Belew is a god. and that Crosseyed And Painless sure makes me smile.
