Let's get it on!

  1. Christopher Cross - Arthur's Theme
  2. Charlene - Never Been To Me
  3. Rupert Holmes - Escape (The Pinacolada Song)
  4. Kim Carnes - Bette Davis Eyes
  5. Climax Blues Band - I Love You

OK... I don't actually have my iPod with me, and none of those are on my iPod.

Consider this list my (late-70s/early-80s Lite Rock) List Of Horror. What's yours?

“There are two types of people in this world: Those who like Neil Diamond, and those who don’t. My ex-wife loves him.” — Bill Murray as Bob Wiley in What About Bob?

Finally, some music I can relate to.

I’m so unhip when it comes to music: although Sinatra is beyond hip. Same thing with Motown, but on a different level.

And it does’t get much better than KC and the Sunshine Band — but I better go before I lose all my street cred.

I thought I’d experiment with the new iTunes ‘Genius’ feature. Here’s what it recommended based on ‘Paranoid Android’ by Radiohead, one of my favourite songs:

    1. 42 – Coldplay
    2. Knocked Up – Kings of Leon
    3. Sweet Jane (Live) – The Velvet Underground
    4. Muscle Museum – Muse
    5. Drain You – Nirvana
    6. D’You Know What I Mean? – Oasis
    7. The Lost Art Of Keeping A Secret – Queens Of The Stone Age
    8. Living Well Is The Best Revenge – R.E.M.
    9. Consoler Of The Lonely – The Raconteurs
    10. Airbag – Radiohead

I’ve run out of space on my iPod.

they just came out with a 120GB model…

    ok. Genius is awesome.

Son Volt – Mystifies Me (a Ron Wood song)
Uncle Tupelo – New Madrid (half of Uncle Tupelo is Son Volt)
Wilco – Summer Teeth (the other half of Uncle Tupelo)
Yo La Tengo – Stockholm Syndrome
Rolling Stones – Torn & Frayed (Ron Wood connection)
Big Star – I’m In Love With A Girl
Pavement – Silence Kit (as folk-rock as Pavement gets)
    Son Volt – Flow
    My Morning Jacket – Masterplan
    REM – Pale Blue Eyes

    a great, cohesive, interrelated list.

even better, a few sings later, it picked something i’d never heard before: The Damnwells, “Sleepsinging”. it’s something i got on a magazine sampler a few years ago, that i never listened to, but, it fits perfectly.

I played with Genius some more last night and ended up buying a dozen songs it recommended from the iTunes Store. Yep, they got me good. That new feature is going to help shift a LOT of songs.
