I never understood why this song wasn’t a huge hit. It helped solidify my suspicions that the public-at-large’s tastes were not to be trusted. I think Budweiser licensed it at some point and it was a rare case where I didn’t feel like a song’s appearance in a commercial was a sell-out. These guys wrote a really great song and they deserved a pile of money for it.

i do remember hearing it a lot in the 80s. but i can’t say if it was a big hit or not. it’s still a staple of 80s new-wave playlists, though. you’re pretty much guaranteed to hear it SiriusXM’s ‘First Wave’ channel.
