    Hey, cool set!

RIP Esbjorn Svensson. Scuba accident on June 14.

    WTF!??!?!

My wife got me one of EST’s CDs for my birthday a couple of years ago. It’s a favorite.

If you like EST you might also dig Nils Petter Molvaer’s “Khmer” (on ECM). Maybe newer Kurt Rosenwinkel also.

No Ipod today, it’s in the baby’s room (my once and future office) and folks get testy if I wake him up.

    later –

    that sucks.

i don’t know a lot about his stuff. i have just the one record, but i like much of it. some of it’s a little too much like Mogwai: a simple melody endlessly repeated (typically a series of arpeggiated piano chords) over a steady rhythm, while the volume changes. no vocals. and that rubs me the wrong way.

i like the Tord Gustavsen Trio. they’re similar, but a bit more classic piano jazz, IMO. i found EST through iTunes “people who bought the Tord Gustavsen Trio also bought…” feature.
