The pileated woodpecker set up pecking outside our spare bedroom window yesterday AM. So I took some pictures.

Cute, ain't it? Cuddly. Like maybe if you held it on your arm it wouldn't always poke your eyes out.
And then he/she jumped from that branch to the next one over, and I got this:

... wish I had thought to pick a higher ISO setting. That would've been awesome without the motion blur.

Whoa . . . very impressive. Certainly more impressive than my dinky little acorn woodpecker.
he’s cute! and he picked a nice branch for you.
That’s beautiful. We have those out here, but I only see them rarely — most of the woodpeckers I see in town are either downy or flickers.
I didn’t know, until your pronoun ambiguity made me look it up, that the female Pileated also have a crest!
i think that one’s male – the stripe on the face seems to be reddish. but it could be black, too.
but either way, they are cool looking!
very shy around people, though. i was surprised to see it so close to my house. the downy and red-headed and the sapsuckers all tolerate people a lot better.
