Happy birthday Alex!
Kind of surprising that Lola shows up on pew’s and on RC’s mix. Nice song tho. (pew, are you by any chance tuning in to my college’s alternative radio station in 1988, instead of your iPod?) Happy birthday, Alex!
Nice to occasionally have some crossover. :)
Alex says ‘daaa da ba ba baaaa’ or something. I think that means ‘thanks!’. :)
Ha! Random is supposedly random, but I swear my player goes on kicks–retro, 80’s, classic rock, grunge. Lately, it has been all about what I was listening to when I graduated High School. Which is even weirder since I just reconnected with a friend on Facebook I hadn’t talked to in 20 years and music is what we were all about.
Happy birthday, Alex!
Oh fun, I get to listen to a Monday Random 10 on a Monday! My current thing is just to keep my shuffle list in the same order and when I want to listen, just scroll through it till something catches my eye — so I’m picking the first song and then listening to what follows at random…
1. Ain’t it a Cryin Shame by Blind Boy Fuller (who I think is from near you)
2. I Fall to Pieces by Patsy Kline
3. Careless Darlin by Ernie Tubb
4. Golden Hair by do you know who? It is off a tribute album called “The Madcap Laughs” which I do not have a track listing for. A wild female singer w/trippy accompaniment. This is not really my favorite Barrett tune but I really like this version.
5. Landlord by the Holy Modal Rounders
6. Kingdom of Love by the Soft Boys
7. Blues Run the Game covered by Nick Drake
8. Don’t Die by Ken Stringfellow
9. Guitar Blues by the de Zurik Sisters
10. Ninety Nine by Sonny Boy Williamson
I should shuffle the list again sometime soon but OTOH I’m pretty happy with for instance this run of songs…
Maybe I should upload a copy of this 10 and then reshuffle.
I mean “The Madcap Laughs Again” of course — you can download it for free via this link — the artist I was wondering about is The Hope Sandoval And Warm Intentions.
Bonus track is “What You Have is Good” by Departure Lounge.
Blind Boy Fuller (who I think is from near you)
yup. Durham.
I made a mix tape from that shuffle + a couple of additions: http://www.greatwhatsit.com/archives/11709
