In August, around the same time the decision was made to keep the Manafort investigation at a low simmer, the F.B.I. grappled with whether to issue subpoenas in the Clinton Foundation case, which, like the Manafort matter, was in its preliminary stages. The investigation, based in New York, had not developed much evidence and was based mostly on information that had surfaced in news stories and the book “Clinton Cash,” according to several law enforcement officials briefed on the case.

In other words, taxpayers are paying FBI agents to surf the web and read wingnut mythology.

Eggheads Slam Shithead

Some 370 economists have written a blistering, evidence-based criticism of Trump that scorches the GOP nominee for his role in promoting “magical thinking and conspiracy theories,” and generally ruining reality for everyone else who's stuck living in it. Eight Nobel laureates in economics co-signed the letter calling him a “dangerous, destructive choice” for the country.

Yeah, but email, poindexters.

The Party Of Lincoln

Ladies and gentlemen, Senator Richard Burr (R-NC):

Nothing made me feel any better than when I walked into a gun shop, I think yesterday in Oxford, and there was copy of Rifleman (the NRA’s official magazine) on the counter,” Burr said. “It’s got a picture of Hillary Clinton on the front of it.

“I was a little bit shocked that it didn’t have a bullseye on it.”

Ha Ha, Fuck You.

Burr says he’ll oppose any Clinton Supreme Court nominee: “If Hillary becomes president, I’m going to do everything I can do to make sure that four years from now, we’re still going to have an opening on the Supreme Court,” he said.

Noted.

Lazy

IT fail:

“This is a legitimate email,” Charles Delevan at the HFA help desk wrote to Podesta’s chief of staff, Sara Latham. “John needs to change his password immediately, and ensure that two-factor authentication is turned on his account.”

Except it wasn't a legitimate email. It was a phishing scam.

And when Podesta clicked the link, he was sent to a fake gmail site that grabbed his password. And then his gmail account was in the hands of the scammers.

Minority Outreach

Cary says he wanted to deliver a note to Trump urging him to be less offensive and more inclusive to four demographic groups: black people, women, people with disabilities and college students. Cary, an African-American, says he’s an ex-Marine who also worked in Afghanistan as a civilian for the U.S. Army.

He walked his way toward the front rows, stood about 20-30 feet from the stage and shouted “Donald” while waving his document to try to get Trump’s attention.

“He entirely mistook that and thought that I was a protester,” Cary said.

Trump’s response: “Were you paid $1,500 to be a thug?” Cary was escorted out.

In the third and final presidential debate, Trump said the Clinton campaign was paying protesters to disrupt his rallies.

Cary said he wasn’t there to protest Trump’s appearance. In fact, he said, he supports the Republican presidential nominee. He just wants to see Trump act more polite and welcoming to minorities.

Kill Me Now

FBI reopening Clinton email case.

The FBI will re-open its investigation into Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server, bureau director James Comey said in a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee on Friday.

"In connection with an unrelated case, the FBI has learned of the existence of emails that appear to be pertinent to the investigation … I agreed that the FBI should take appropriate investigative steps designed to allow investigators to review these emails to determine whether they contain classified information, as well as to assess their importance to our investigation," he wrote.

That raises more questions than it answers. I'm sure that wasn't Comey's intention at all.

Oh FFS. That'll teach me to trust words that orginate from wingnut witch-hunter, Jason Chaffetz.

But CBS News’ Jeff Pegues reports that the FBI is not yet saying that it’s reviving the investigation. That will depend on the outcome of its assessment of “whether or not this material may be significant.” The FBI’s investigative team briefed Comey Thursday on the new emails. In his letter, the FBI director also warned the committee chairs, “I cannot predict how long it will take us to complete this additional work.”

Pegues also reports that the “unrelated case” mentioned in the letter to members of Congress is not related to Secretary Clinton, but rather, involves someone else, according to law enforcement officials.

The New York Times reported Friday that the new emails were discovered during the investigation into the sexting scandal of Anthony Weiner, the husband of top Clinton aide Huma Abedin, after the agency seized electronic devices belonging to the couple.

If you're a "center-left" type just chomping at the bit to write your "How Conservatives Can Save Their Party" thinkpiece, just don't. No one cares. Write your "How President Clinton Can Make Shit Less Fucked Up And Bullshit" piece instead.

They write those pieces for the same reason sportswriters write pieces about "What [Insert Team Here] Needs To Do To Come Back From Last Year's Disastrous Season". They're armchair General Managing, of course. But also, they want to watch and talk about better games. They hate teams who always lose because that's boring for people who write about sport for a living. "Browns lose, again. Yawn." They like a close, hard-fought, twisty-turny, upsy-downsy race.

"How To Make The GOP Better" is their way of complaining that the current GOP might make their jobs boring. Policy? What's that?
