Dicks

Go watch the whiny-ass cops who think, because they're cops, they shouldn't get speeding tickets. They're keeping a long list of officers (whom they call "Dicks") who won't show a little "professional courtesy" and let off-duty cops get away with speeding. Witness their pathetic whining as they recount how they tried, and failed, to use all manner of excuse and name-dropping to weasel out of the ticket. Dicks.

Finishing Quickly

The head of the Catholic Church in Mozambique has told the BBC he believes some European-made condoms are infected with HIV deliberately.

Maputo Archbishop Francisco Chimoio claimed some anti-retroviral drugs were also infected "in order to finish quickly the African people".

On one hand, he must be telling the truth, since he's a Man Of God. On the other hand, WTF?

Priorities

Andrew Sullivan shares a fact with us:

For the fourth year in a row, U.S. marijuana arrests set an all-time record in 2006, according to the just-released FBI Uniform Crime Reports. Marijuana arrests totaled 829,627, an increase from 786,545 in 2005. Similar to previous years, 738,916 or 89 percent were for possession, not sale or manufacture, and marijuana possession arrests again exceeded arrests for all violent crimes combined.

Bird Song

Here's a sketchy MP3 of Andrew Bird doing his song "Why" at the show in Durham NC, last week. This version is totally different from the one he does on The Swimming Hour; there's it's a relatively straightforward smoky blues tune. Here, it's all broken up, free-form, disjoint. I actually didn't recognize it when he was playing it, and thought it was some unreleased thing. It's only after I head the original and realized the words were the same that I figured out they were the same song.

Actually, there's an interesting idea there: if you change the melody, structure and arrangement of a song, but keep the words, mostly, is it still the same song?

Anyway... the sound quality is pretty murky - the camera apparently has a thing against frequencies above 6KHz.
