This head-coldy Monday AM starts with a sniffle and...

  1. Beastie Boys - 5 Piece Chicken Dinner. Not really a song.
  2. Miles Davis - The Theme (take 2). Only a part of a song.

  4. Idyll Swords - Morning in miniature. A short instrumental.
  5. John Pizzarelli - Lullaby.
  6. Unrest - Isabel. (f.f.r.r. version)
  7. Big Star - Holocaust. "You're a wasted face / You're a sad-eyed lie / You're a holocaust". Yay.
  8. The Beatles - Everybody's Trying To Be My Baby. Finally something to brighten the mood.
  9. Belly - Stay
  10. Peter Gabriel - San Jacinto

Odd mix, as usual.

  11. Bonus: Robyn Hitchcock - Adoration Of The City.

That's a fine mix.

I'd be interested in the calculating the odds of three Hitchcock songs showing up in a list of 11 (out of 6000 songs, roughly 300 of which are RH). But I have no idea how to calculate that... I don't remember enough probability to know how to do it without having to work with numbers like 6000 factorial ... (6000 * 5999 * 5998 * 5997 ... * 1 = 2.689 * 1020065)

Time to start the work week...

  1. Liz Phair - Girls Girls Girls. 3 stars
  2. Yo La Tengo - Upside Down (live). 1 star (the default for live stuff. the studio version gets 4 stars)
  3. Replacements - Alex Chilton. 3.
  4. Dino Jr. - Pond Song. 3
  5. Mission of Burma - This is Not a Photograph. 2. OK, iPod, got anything from the 21st century ?
  6. Bauhaus - Double Dare. 3. Hmm...
  7. Hector - South. 2. (my band in '93) I think the iPod is openly mocking me, now.
  8. Big Star - Down The Street. 3. a.k.a. the theme to That 70's Show.
  9. REM - We Walk. 2.
  10. The Breeders - Glorious. 2

Well, that was truly odd. I purged a ton of the older stuff from my iPod over the weekend and replaced it with newer stuff and stuff that I haven't heard in a long time. Not one of those new songs came up. In fact, except for that Big Star song, the iPod stuck to a very narrow time span. And, including that Big Star song, it stuck to a very specific genre (ie. early 90's college rock). This would make a good "College Rock Radio From 1993" CD.

Sometimes, I doubt that Shuffle is actually random.
