But, the theme adds a new twist.

The "rock" part is easy - though it's not all "rock", and I've gone about as obscure as I dare go, this time. The "Cycle" part is a bit more involved.

Here's how it works. For each song in the list, the artist responsible for the song has a connection to the artist responsible for the next song. "Artist" may be a member of a band, a solo artist, a guest musician, half of a duet, etc.. And the rules for a "connection" are simple. To make a connection between one song and the next, one of the following must be true:

The artist(s) involved in recording each song may have been in the same band (though not necessarily at the same time).

One artist may have played on a recording with the other. Could be a featured guest spot - a duet, for example. Could be just dropping by the studio to play on a song or two. Either way, there must be at least one officially recorded and released song.

Songwriting doesn't count. Production doesn't count. Family relations don't count. Being part of a touring band doesn't count. Sharing the stage one night at a benefit somewhere does not count.

As an example, assume you've identified these four songs, and now you need to find the connections:

Big Star - Morpha Too

The Replacements - I. O. U.

Guns And Roses - Welcome To The Jungle

Jane's Addiction - Mountain Song

Well, you can make a connection from Big Star to The Replacements because Alex Chilton of Big Star played on The Replacement's album "Please To Meet Me". And, you can make a connection from The Replacements to Guns And Roses because Tommy Stinson played bass in both bands. And finally, the guy Stinson replaced in GnR, Duff McKagan, went on to play in Jane's Addiction.

Got the idea?

Some of the connections are simple and obvious. Some are obscure. Just like the songs.

So, in addition to points for naming the song and artist, you will get one point if you can describe the connection from a song to the song that follows it.

You'll have to use your imagination for what to do on the last song.

Rules

You get 1 point if you name the song.

You get 1 point if you name the artist.

You get 1 point if you identify the connection from one song to the song that follows.

Therefore, there are three points possible for each song, 60 points total.

Leave your answers in comments.

Your answers will be hidden from everyone but me.

The contest ends on Friday November 25th, 12:00pm EST. I'll reveal the comments, and the answers, and total up the points, then.

I'll provide hints for any songs that haven't been identified, as of Monday noon.

The person with the most points will win a prize !

OK, so here are the songs:

Clip

Hints?

Clip

Hints?

Song #1

It's a Gillian Welch song.

Song #2

--

Song #3

--

Song #4

--

Song #5

From their first album, 1995

Song #6

--

Song #7

--

Song #8

--

Song #9

--

Song #10

Song was used on a Citibank commercial

Song #11

--

Song #12

This band is Nuts

Song #13

There aren't any songs about spiders on this

Song #14

--

Song #15

--

Song #16

--

Song #17

Zappa's sometimes-friend

Song #18

1981, no longer Soft

Song #19

--

Song #20

--

Have at it.

OK. it's over.
